After a week in Apple’s app-approval purgatory, the Hustle City Demo is finally live. If you’ve signed up and haven’t received the beta yet, stay tuned! Space is limited, but you’re still on the list of potential testers. If you haven’t yet, make sure you sign up for a chance to beta test Hustle City.
We’ve taken a big first step toward getting out of the beta phase and releasing the full demo in the app store, so everyone will be able to shred the gnar in Hustle City, but what will happen between now and then?
Glad you asked.
Why Beta Test?
You may have asked yourself why we’re going through this limited, staged rollout process. Wouldn’t it be easier to just release it in the App Store and figure it out later? The ol’ “shoot first, ask questions later” approach. Believe me, setting up and releasing via the Beta test-channel has been plenty stressful for Marcus and me.
While we’d love for everyone to be able to play the game right now, a limited release allows us time to collect, process, and incorporate feedback into future iterations of Hustle City. For instance, a prospective player mentioned they didn’t have a smart trainer and asked if they could play with just a speed/cadence sensor. To be perfectly honest, we hadn’t considered that. For better or worse, smart trainers have become so pervasive that we just assume that is how people would prefer to play the game. Through that blind spot, we would have inadvertently shut out many people who want to play, and by god we want everyone to play.
There are a number of items on our immediate list, specifically Strava integration and expanded hardware support. We want everyone to ride and count those miles.
You can see what we’re working on through our feature upvote page. There you can submit your own feature requests and vote on others.
So where do we go from here?
The Hustle City Demo is only one day of gameplay, one hour of the story. We have four more days ready to go (you’re going to LOVE the story), but they need polishing, we want to incorporate your most requested features from Feature Upvote.
If you’re here you’re already one of the few hip to what we’re doing at Hustle City, and through signing up you’ll have the opportunity to get on the ground floor of something groundbreaking. We love the game we’ve made so far and know you will too. I can’t wait for you to join us on this adventure.
