Hustle City Setup Guide

man on a smart trainer playing virtual cycling game

Welcome to Hustle City! The game combines available technologies to create a unique playing experience, so here’s what you need to know to start riding.

We spent most of our development budget on this set to make it look like a bedroom.

Tech You Need to Play

Smart Trainer

Upon startup, Hustle City will search for and pair with the nearest smart trainer. We now support Wahoo, Tacx, Elite, and pretty much every other bluetooth smart trainer.

Hustle City is run through your iPhone as an app, then mirrored to your larger screen (see instructions below).

AirPlay Mirroring Receiver

An AirPlay mirroring receiver puts Hustle City on your big screen for an immersive experience. An Apple TV will make it happen, as well as a Roku Premiere (running OS 9.4 or newer).

If you only have a computer, AirServer is an inexpensive application that allows you to turn your computer into a universal mirroring receiver. Free for 30 days!

Tech to Help You Play

Phone Mount

Your phone controls steering in the game. Any stem or handlebar phone mount will do the trick.

A Garmin-style mount will also work by sticking one of these adapters on the back of your phone.

Alternatively, one clever tester is using rubber bands to secure their phone to their stem.

Steering Block

A steering block will help you maneuver through Hustle City to become king of the messengers. The Elite Sterzo is a great option. The Elite Sterzo Smart model works with Zwift, too.

A rotating swivel stand will work as well. You’ll need to position your front wheel halfway between the center of the swivel stand and the back edge, where the “X” is.

The sound will be coming from your airplay device, but you can connect Bluetooth headphones for a more private experience. These will do a fine job keeping the sound of Hustle City personal.

Fan and Towel

Unless you want to sweat all over your bike and floor, a towel and fan are necessary for a good time.

Connect to Apple TV, Roku, or AirServer

Prior to launching Hustle City, you’ll need to Mirror your iPhone to your Apple TV, Roku, or AirServer.

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the same Wi-Fi network as your AirPlay 2-compatible device.
  2. Open Control Center:
    • On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPadOS or later: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
    • On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  4. Select your device from the list.
  5. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your iOS or iPadOS device.

How to Zero In-Game Steering

From time to time, you may need to reset the gyroscope. You’ll notice this if you have to angle the handlebars to ride in a straight line. To fix the issue, correct the angle of your bars then tap the “N” icon on your phone’s display
